CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A 44-year-old man from Dupo, Illinois is missing after being dropped off to hunt in a wooded area Monday afternoon.

Chris Stasiak’s girlfriend told police he had not been heard from since he was dropped off in the 300 block of McBride Avenue in Dupo around 1 p.m. Family members said they expected to hear from him at about 4 or 5 p.m. but a call never came.

After being dropped off, Stasiak was last seen walking on the railroad tracks just under State Route 3.

Stasiak, described as being 5-foot-9 and 272 pounds, was last seen wearing all camouflage clothing, rubber boots, and a hat with a light. He was carrying a backpack, tree stand, and his bow with several arrows.

The Illinois State Police, St. Clair County K-9 Unit and the Eureka Fire Protection District were all called to the area to help with the search. Eureka has a specialized search-and-rescue unit that is certified for these types of operations.

Overnight, crews used a helicopter with night vision, while a thermal K-9 team searched on the ground.

The family told fire officials the missing hunter knows the area and visits it regularly.
