SULLIVAN, Mo. (KMOV.com) – No charges were filed against a man suspected of fatally stabbing a person in Sullivan in Sunday night.

Police were called to an alley in the 200 block of Watson Road around 7:30 p.m. Police said they found 24-year-old Austin Lusty, who had been stabbed in the neck and chest bleeding heavily.

Lt. Patrick Johnson of the Sullivan Police Department said, "We had received a call of a woman screaming into the phone stating that there had been a stabbing."

Authorities said Lusty apparently heard a man and woman outside that were involved in a heated argument. He then went outside to intervene on the woman's behalf, officials said.

Authorities report the suspect, a woman and a 2-year-old girl were seen leaving the area following the stabbing. The woman and child were unharmed when they were later found by police.

Lusty was taken to the hospital after the incident where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 43-year-old Steelville, Missouri man was taken into custody in Cuba, Missouri in connection with the incident, according to authorities. The man was later released from police custody.

A GoFundMe account was set up to help pay for the funeral.

This is the first homicide in Sullivan since July of 2007.
