Off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy involved in head-on crash Friday

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – An off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a crash Friday morning.

The off-duty deputy, identified as Daniel Niere, was driving to National Guard Duty when he was involved in a head-on crash on State Route 30 near Dittmer Ridge Road around 6:47 a.m., officials said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital following the crash. The officer suffered moderate injuries, and the other driver sustained serious injuries in the crash. 

The highway was shut down in both directions while emergency personnel responded to the scene.  

Police said they are investigating the other driver for being under the influence at the time of the accident.
