NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

Police arrested a man and woman in north St. Louis County Thursday afternoon who allegedly led police on a chase after nearly crashing into a funeral procession.

Around 11:40 a.m., a 1989 white Oldsmobile almost caused a wreck on the outer road of I-70 when it cut into a 20-car funeral procession, police said. The procession was led and trailed by a St. Charles County police cruiser.

The driver traveled with the funeral procession until he reached a funeral home, before getting back on the outer road and traveling toward Cave Springs. Police said the driver then pulled over and acted as if he would cooperate with officers, but drove off when an officer questioned him about an odor of marijuana.

The car proceeded to drive erratically eastbound on I-70, then north on I-270 before crashing into a ditch near the Lindbergh exit around noon. Shortly before crashing, police believe the driver threw a handgun out the window.

Authorities said the driver and a female passenger were arrested on outstanding warrants. A stolen semi-automatic 9 mm handgun was found near the scene, police said. Authorities are pursuing felony charges against the man and woman.
