A pastor and church elder are facing charges in connection with the secret placing of cameras around a Bethalto church.

David Von Bergen, 58, is charged with several counts of unauthorized video recording and obstructing justice. Pastor Kale Hanson, 36, is also charged with obstructing justice.

Von Bergen is accused of secretly placing cameras around Zion Lutheran Church, one of which was found in a changing room, police said.

The cameras were discovered on Christmas Eve. Then, authorities said Hanson confronted Von Bergen about them. While the two were talking, Hanson agreed to destroy the devices’ memory cards to eliminate evidence.

Von Bergen was then allegedly allowed to leave with the cameras before police were called.
