COLLINSVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- A Collinsville High School student is in custody Thursday, after he reportedly brought a gun to school.

According to superintendent Dr. Robert Green, school administrators were informed the student had a handgun in his backpack  and notified their school resource officer.

Green’s statement says the student was ‘quietly,’ removed from the classroom and released into the custody of the Collinsville Police Department.

According to the statement the handgun was unloaded and the student did not have any ammunition in his possession. The student said he did not intend to harm anyone and administrators say there were no threats made at any time.

The reason behind the student having the weapon is unknown at this time, but Green said no students or staff were believed to be in danger.
