BOURBON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man and woman are facing charges in the death of a Bourbon man who was last seen in 2012.

Michael Pickett was reportedly last seen in June of 2012 at the home he lived in with his girlfriend and her three children in the 820 block of Shamrock Lane.

According to authorities, Pickett’s remains were found in a tote on December 1, 2013. Following an autopsy, authorities determined he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The eldest daughter of Christina Bailey, 36, told police that around the time Pickett went missing she found out her biological father was Michael Watring, 38. The daughter continued by telling police she had told Watring that Pickett choked and hit her in the head on one occasion. After telling Watring of the incident, the suspect allegedly told the daughter she did not have to be scared of Pickett anymore.

The daughter told police Watring detailed to her how he shot Pickett, and Bailey helped him pull the mattress from Pickett’s room into the home’s front yard. After pulling the mattress onto the front yard, the two broke Pickett’s legs and lit him on fire, according to the probable cause statement.

Following his death, the suspects put Pickett’s remains in a box and took them to Watring’s father’s property, the daughter told police. The body was later moved to Forest Hill Road after the two suspects got into an argument two months later, the probable cause statement read.

Both suspects were charged with first-degree murder and are currently being held on $750,000 bonds.
