Mayor Slay writes to NFL regarding 'inaccuracies' in relocation application

ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay posted a letter he wrote to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on his Facebook page Thursday morning.

In the letter, Mayor Slay responds to the “multiple inaccuracies and misrepresentation of St. Louis” that were written by Rams owner Stan Kroenke in his submission for relocation.

In the letter, the mayor wrote that he cannot remember ever meeting Kroenke, or “engaging with him any conversation about the future of NFL football in St. Louis.” He also wrote that he has tried “to engage the Rams without success.”

“I know that most NFL owners enjoy excellent relationships with their mayors and other public officials,” Mayor Slay wrote. “In fact, the entire St. Louis community used to have a strong bond with the Rams that is sorely, and obviously missing. But, we’d love to recapture it.”

Mayor Slay also wrote that St. Louis was ranked first by Popular Mechanics in 2015 as one of the best startup cities in America.

“As for our fans, they are the best – For baseball, hockey and football. If a professional team tries hard to succeed, wins more than it loses, and treats its fan base and community with respect, they will go to the games. The Cardinals, Blues and at times the Rams have demonstrated that,” stated a portion of Mayor Slay’s letter.
