ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Some residents in the Shaw neighborhood awoke Thursday to their tires being slashed.

According to a News 4 photographer at the scene, roughly 100 tires were slashed on cars parked on the 3800 block of Shanandoah, South Spring and Botanical overnight.

Shortly after noon Thursday, police said they were still working to determine how many vehicles had been damaged, but counted at least 40.

William Checkett told News 4 his car was parked in front of his residence when the tires were slashed overnight. He said he first noticed the flat tires as he was driving on his way to work.

“I was first driving and then it was bumping just a little bit too much, and when I got out I was surprised to see that not just one, but two were slashed,” Checkett said.  “I thought I ran over something, but looking at the cars on the street there all flat as well,” he said.

Officials said they are currently reviewing surveillance video in the area to see if the incident was captured on camera.

Authorities have increased patrols in the area.

No other information has been released.
