LAKE ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A former St. Louis County police officer has been sentenced to 5 years probation after pleading guilty to the assault of his girlfriend that occurred at their home in Lake St. Louis in 2015.  Consequently, Lively resigned from the police force last week, and must give up his police license, can't own a gun and can't consume alcohol.

Bret Lively, 33, was charged with domestic assault and felonious restraint. Authorities said Lively and his girlfriend got into an argument on Dec. 22, 2015 that later turned physical. The victim told police Lively was drunk.

Lively had returned home from shopping and dumped contents from a broken glass potpourri container on his girlfriend. He then grabbed her, dragged her to dining room table and forced her to floor, before taking out her cell and hitting her in the back of her head with a fist. Police said the victim lost consciousness.

Lively proceeded to drag her into the foyer, police said, and forced her to the ground before striking her again. He grabbed her arms and pulled them behind her back while pushing on her tailbone with his knee or foot. Police believe he then hit her again.

His girlfriend ran to a neighbor’s house for help. She suffered a fractured tailbone, bruises on her head, face, wrist and right hand, police said.

Lively turned himself in early January, 2016. His bond was reduced on the condition that he have no contact with his girlfriend, be equipped with an alcohol monitor, seek counseling and surrender his guns.
