Mother holding young children when she was robbed on front porch in Holly Hills

SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A mother and her two young children are okay after being robbed at gunpoint on their own front porch in the Holly Hills neighborhood.

Police are searching for a suspect who was able to get away on foot.

“It seems like the kids these days are just constantly just feeding on the weak,” said the victim’s husband, who did not want to be identified. “Women with children, elderly. It's unbelievable.”

The robbery happened around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, on Wilmington Ave. near Grand Blvd. The husband said his wife had their 8-month-old boy and 7-year-old daughter in her arms when she was robbed on their front porch.

The suspect ripped the car keys out of the mother’s hand and attempted to take-off in the family’s van. However, the suspect got scared when the husband and neighbors yelled at him. The suspect then ran off in a back alley.

“With my kids there, it was just pure fear,” said the husband. “All I can do is comfort her and the children. She's had multiple nights where she is just tossing and turning. All she sees is the gunman running up the stairs at her and the 7-year-old has the same problem.”

The husband said after this incident the family feels unsafe in their own neighborhood and now wants the St. Louis community to support adding more police officers to the force to better patrol neighborhoods.

Crime statistics for all of 2015 have not yet been published by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, however through November, robberies were up in Holly Hills:

  • 3 robberies in 2014
  • 11 robberies in 2015

Police are still investigating the robbery and are looking for the suspect that many witnesses described at the scene.
