Crews rescue man and child after vehicle crashes into building

Two people were trapped inside their vehicle when they crashed into the side of a building Sunday morning. 

The collision took place in the 4500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, just east of Kingshighway Boulevard. Around 8:30 a.m., the vehicle collided with the face of the building, causing structural damage. 

The occupants of the vehicle, a man and child, were treated and transported to the hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening. 

According to the St. Louis Fire Department, fire crews then investigated the building to see if any occupants were inside. 

The Collapse Rescue Task Force was called to the scene of the accident. The damage to the building was ruled a first alarm structural collapse.Crews pulled down the rest of the building not yet collapsed. 

The cause of the vehicle collision is unknown at this time.
