City of Kimmswick builds 10 ft levee to protect downtown

Posted: Updated:

JEFFERSON COUNTY (KMOV.com) - Residents of Kimmswick, Mo. are building a 10 foot levee to protect their historic downtown.

Officials say businesses began evacuating on December 28 as a precaution. Volunteers have worked around the clock to fill more than 35,000 sandbags.

According to officials, some roads and bridges are under water, but so far, damage has been minimal.

The town did experience flood damage in 1993, but officials say they do not expect the water to reach those levels during this flood.
