Gov. Nixon visits with hard-hit Pacific, Mo.

Pacific, Missouri is one of the hardest hit areas by the recent flooding.

Wednesday, Governor Jay Nixon spoke directly with residents and local leaders about the progress being made and what it will take to keep residents safe. Nixon visited the city while the community was stacking sandbags.

He commended volunteers and officials for their hard word and dedication, and spoke about the similarity to the historic 1993 floods.

The floods have already caused mass evacuations and once the water moves out, Nixon says their will be millions of dollars in damage left behind.

"When this is over and water is going down everywhere we will send teams back out from our emergency management office to get evaluation," Nixon said. "If we get over $8 million dollars of damage in the state, it qualifies for 75-25 match a storm of this magnitude. We are going to get there."

Nixon also told local law enforcement to keep a close eye on neighborhoods most affected, as a way to prevent looting.
