PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Two separate incidents in Pulaski County Saturday night claimed the lives of six people when the vehicles they were in drove into flood waters and we swept away.

Authorities said the first incident happened on Highway U near the intersection of Buffalo Road. A witness told police they saw the car drive into the flooded road before being immediately swept downstream. When officers responded to the scene they found a Chevy sedan tangle in brush hundreds of yards away from the road.

Four bodies were found in the car. Police identified them as international soldiers temporarily stationed at Fort Leonard Wood for training. Their names have not been released as the U.S. State Department notifies their family members.

Witnesses told police a similar occurrence happened at almost the exact same time at the intersection of Highway O and Jones Creek. A vehicle tried to cross a flooded road but was swept away and caught in debris. Police said a male and female victim were found inside the vehicle. Their names have not been released yet.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department said conditions continue to deteriorate with almost 75 roads closed or washed-away. Authorities continue to warn residents to turn around, don’t drown.
