Christmas thieves steal Metro East family's presents

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) -- It was a Christmas morning Wendy Williams wasn't expecting. She says overnight at her home in Alorton, she heard a noise and thought it was her sister putting more gifts under the tree. But it turns out it was really thieves looking to cash in.

Williams stayed her room until this morning and saw something that made her heart sink.

"I looked over and I saw the gifts were gone. Probably about 90 percent of the gifts that we had purchased and wrapped up were gone," she said. "I went to the dining room and noticed the 40 inch TV was missing. We had an emotional day."

She called police and filed a report, but there is a silver lining. The thieves didn't get away with everything so her two young nieces still had a few gifts to open.

"Our aunt said that some kids start pouting when they don't have presents, but we were mature enough to think it was enough gifts for us," said 9-year-old Arin.

The big question here is if Christmas thieves ruined the holiday for this family, but you’d be surprised what Arin told us.

"It was the most perfect Christmas in the world. This Christmas they took the gifts that meant something to me, but it doesn't matter about the gifts. It matters about family," she said.

The investigation is ongoing.
