ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man is in custody after allegedly pushing an officer, nearly colliding with a police vehicle and leading police on a chase from St. Louis County into the City of St. Louis Thursday morning.

Around 3:45 a.m., police received a call for a report of a larceny in progress at a Walgreen’s located on Halls Ferry Road in Jennings. When police arrived, they found the security guard had detained the suspect for shoplifting a men’s thermal t-shirt and an ash tray, worth a total value of $14.78.

When the officer told the suspect he was under arrest, the suspect allegedly pushed the officer and security guard away, and ran out of the store. The officer deployed his department issued TASER and attempted to handcuff the suspect, but was unsuccessful, police said.

The suspect then entered a vehicle parked on the lot and drove off at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting a Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department patrol vehicle.

Bellefontaine Neighbors police then pursed the vehicle with the assistance of the St. Louis City Police Department.

The pursuit ended near the 8200 block of Frederick in St. Louis where officers with the St. Louis City Police Department arrested the suspect.

According to police, a stolen handgun was found underneath the driver’s seat of the suspect’s vehicle.

During the incident, a St. Louis County officer sustained an abrasion to his upper back, scratches to his knee and an injured index finger, police said. The security guard was not injured.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.
