ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A 15-year-old male suspect turned himself into police Monday afternoon after a 3-year-old boy was fatally shot in St. Louis County Monday morning.

According to St. Louis County Police Department spokesperson Shawn McGuire, officers received a call that Xzavier Robinson had been shot just before noon in the 1600 block of Emerald Creek near Florissant.

Officers are unsure what led to the shooting and whether or not Robinson was shot accidentally, but they have determined the male suspect was a family acquaintance. Robinson was rushed to an area hospital but died shortly after arriving.

There were reportedly several people inside the home when the shooting occurred.

The suspect, identified by police as a 15-year-old male, fled the scene on foot, but later turned himself into police. Authorities believe the suspect is a family acquaintance.
