CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis man is accused of stealing a car shortly after being released from the St. Louis County Justice Center in August.
John Spencer Varnon, 43, allegedly stole a 2008 Town and Country that was parked on a lot at the corner of Central Avenue and Carondelet Avenue in Clayton. According to police, the victim left his keys inside the unlocked car when he went to meet with an attorney nearby.
When the victim returned to the vehicle 20 minutes later, it was missing.
Nearby surveillance cameras captured a man wearing a dark-colored shirt and light-colored shorts driving the vehicle from the area. The vehicle was recovered near where Varnon was residing, police said.
Two months after the incident, Varnon was taking into custody. According to the probable cause statement, he refused to make a statement.
Varnon is charged with one count of stealing a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $10,000.
