ISP troopers on lookout for drunk, distracted drivers this holiday season

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. ( – The Illinois State Police Department has stepped up patrols for their annual holiday crackdown.

Between December 16 and January 1 officers will be on the lookout for drunk and distracted drivers.

During the patrols, at least six to eight troopers will be specifically assigned to the beat. They will even by working overtime and won’t get called off unless an emergency occurs.

Troopers said they are stepping things up because this time of year is when distracted driving gets worse.

“In the metro east there’s always more travelers during the holiday periods. You have college kids that are home from school, people are traveling along interstates and highways to visit relatives and we see a lot more people drinking and driving, and distracted driving as well,” said Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye, Jr.
