Extra police expected to patrol streets during holiday rush

Posted: Updated:

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Law enforcement throughout St. Charles County are on a mission to keep drivers safe on the roads during the holiday season.

Extra police officers will be on patrol searching for impaired drivers starting Friday, said Lt. Mark O'Neill with St. Charles County police.

"It's historically a time of high volume accidents, also accidents involving alcohol," said O'Neill.

A state grant is helping departments within the county fund the additional DWI patrol.

O'Neill said it is important for residents to remember to assign a designated driver or call a cab when engaging in holiday festivities that involve drinking alcohol. Otherwise, there will be significant consequences.

"If you are buzzed...you are going to be going to jail if pulled over by St. Charles county police," said O'Neill.

This year's DWI enforcement in St. Charles County will run from December 18 to January 3.
