EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

After finding the remains of a loved one at the scene of his death, two Madison County women are suing St. Clair County.

Karissa McPherson, the sister of the deceased, and Candice Holland, the fiancee of the deceased, filed a lawsuit against St. Clair County on Oct. 14. McPherson and Holland are suing the county for negligence.

The deceased, Jared McPherson, died in a car accident on Aug. 8. Two days later, McPherson and Holland called the St. Clair Coroner's Officer to find the exact location of the accident. According to the suit, the two women wanted to lay a memorial at the accident site.

When they arrived, McPherson and Holland found part of a skull and hand, body parts they believed belonged to Jared McPherson. After notifying the Deputy Coroner, the parts were sent to the funeral home where Jared McPherson's body was located.

During a second trip to the site, McPherson and Holland claim they found bones. They believed belonged to Jared McPherson.

The two women are seeking $50,000 in damages.

The court date is set for Jan. 7 at 9:00 a.m. in the Madison County Courthouse.
