Teen charged with burglarizing churches in South County, Crestwood

SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A 17-year-old has been charged in connection to a string of church burglaries, according to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Police said Zachary Witte targeted two churches in Crestwood and two others in south county between November 24 and November 28. More than $500 in valuables was stolen in two of those burglaries, authorities said.

Surveillance footage captured at one of the burglary sites reportedly led police to Witte.

Prosecutors charged the 17-year-old with three counts of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree attempted burglary, and one count of second-degree property damage.

Witte confessed to all charges while in custody, police said.

He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

Investigators listed the four burglarized churches as follows: 

November 24, 2015 – Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9373 Garber Rd.

November 27, 2015 – Faith Lutheran Church, 6101 Telegraph Rd.

November 27, 2015 – St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, 4900 Ringer Rd.

November 28, 2015 – Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8646 Sappington Rd.
