FENTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) - St. Louis County police said they are searching for a suspect who escaped arrest after attempting to steal several bottles of perfume from a retail store Wednesday.

Police said a man with long dread locks was caught pocketing fragrances at the Gordmans on Gravois Bluffs Boulevard in Fenton at about 2:25 p.m.

The suspect managed to escape a responding police officer, who attempted to make an arrest inside the store.

As the suspect ran across the parking lot, he fell to the ground and reportedly began fighting the officer.

During the scuffle, police said, the suspect freed himself and jumped into a dark green Mazda 6, which had three other occupants.

The car then fled the scene and nearly struck another responding police vehicle in the process, according to authorities.

Police said the getaway vehicle had a faded hood, red and white bumper, and broken passenger mirror.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact the St. Louis County Police Department.
