O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Charges were issued Wednesday against a man accused of wearing a chimpanzee mask during an armed gas station robbery in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Police said William J. Brown, 23, entered the Midwest Petroleum gas station on Bryan Road just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday. While wearing the mask, the suspect reportedly displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash from the register.

After the clerk complied with Brown’s demands, the money was placed into drawstring bag that had "STL" on it, police believe it may be a St. Louis Cardinals bag.

He then left the store with $208, according to authorities.

Brown was later arrested, and police said he admitted to robbing the gas station because "he needed money."

He is being held on $100,000 bond.
