ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Three children have died in a first alarm fire in north St. Louis.

The fire occurred just after 4:00 a.m. in the 4900 block of Plover Avenue, near Walnut Park in north St. Louis. Firefighters learned their were three children stuck inside the building. After entering the building and searching for the children, firefighters were unable to retrieve the children.

The children who died in the fire were 10 month-old Seven Hutcherson, 4 year-old Anastasia Odom, and 6 year-old Aniya Calvin.

Fire officials believe 9-10 people were inside at the time of the fire.

"When dispatch comes out that there's a report of children trapped in a fire, it sends our guys to an 11 on a sale of 1 to 10," said Gregg Farve of the St. Louis Fire Department. "These guys would run through walls if they can."

The two adults were also transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The man was injured after entering the building himself to save the children inside.

"I was going to the bathroom and came back in the living room and saw two of the kids laying down. I put covers over them, kissed them on the cheek, and went upstairs. Not even an hour passed," said Viances Hucherson, who was one of the adults saving the kids. Hucherson says he heard loud screams and smelled smoke before climbing out of his window on the top of the house.

"I grabbed the other two brothers and we all jumped off at the same time," he said.

Fire crews believe the fire was caused by space heaters. There were no working fire detectors inside the home.

A neighbor told News 4 he is shocked by what happened and will do whatever it takes to help the family.

"We're (neighbors) supposed to be getting today and we're gonna talk it over and get together. We're all going to pitch in together and help the guy because he helped everybody on this block," said neighbor Robert Thomas. "I'm living on fixed income, but this week something's got to move because I'm giving up everything I can get a hold of because he was my friend."

A family member has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funeral arrangements for the three children.
