Wet roads cause problems in Metro East

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Water soaked roads caused problems for Metro east drivers today. The Illinois Highway Patrol says in the last 32 hours, there have been 41 crashes all due to the rain.

Troopers say drivers got away with minor injuries, but that number is a huge increase to what is normally seen on dry day. Troopers say the biggest culprit are motorists driving too fast for conditions.

"You have to drive slow the road may look clear then all of a sudden drive under pass and there may be a big puddle of water and once you hydroplaning, it's almost too late," says Trooper Calvin Dye Jr.

The best advise Dye says is to give yourself enough time out on the roadways and to slow down.
