With rain in forecast, Winfield residents fear more flooding

WINFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Residents of Winfield are on high alert for flooding with a forecast of heavy rain for the St. Louis-area Monday and Tuesday.

The fears come after a summer in which some homes and businesses saw three feet of water inside their walls. Monday night’s and Tuesday’s forecast call for several inches of rain.

“I am kind of worried, the last time we were less than an inch from coming into the restaurant.  I know the town has made a few changes,” said Candy Rhodes, owner of the Market Grill.

Rhodes said Winfield has put a new drainage system in place and the word has gone out to make sure storm drains aren’t loaded with leaves and debris.

One resident told News 4 some businesses have not received from flooding in June. In June, a creek close to Winfield became problematic when debris collected, causing a back-up of floodwaters, which then spilled onto Highway 79.
