ST. LOUIS, Mo.  (KMOV.com) – St. Louis County police have released the identity of the alleged armed robber who was fatally shot by a utility worker in north St. Louis County Monday morning.

Just before 9 a.m., three contractors from ADB Utility Company were working on water lines near the intersection of Lynncrest and Crown Point, when a man approached them with a firearm, authorities said.

The suspect, later identified as 17-year-old Antonio Moore, of St. Louis, allegedly stole two of the men's wallets at gunpoint. Police said the suspect then directed a third man to hand over items located inside the work truck.

The third man then retrieved a handgun stored inside the work truck, and fearing for his life, shot Moore one time in the chest, authorities said.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating the case as self-defense.

No further information has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
