ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The suspect allegedly responsible for the officer-involved shooting outside Lumiere Place Casino Saturday morning has been charged.
Javon Markeith Burton has been charged with second degree assault against a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action.
Around 10:00 a.m., Missouri Highway Patrol responded to a call from casino security. Security told the Highway Patrol a woman was hanging on top of a car that was driving through the third floor of the parking garage. Patrolmen arrived on the third floor and blocked the vehicle from exiting to the second floor.
When the vehicle stopped, the woman got off the car and got inside of it. After troopers told Burton to exit the vehicle, the woman exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Burton remained in the vehicle and drove towards the patrol car. One of the Patrolman responded by firing one shot at Burton. He was struck in the shoulder.
"The suspect had ample room to go around of the opposite side of the vehicle but he chose to accelerate toward our officer," said Missouri Highway Patrol Corporal Justin Wheatley.
Burton was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation of the shooting is ongoing.
