Police in St. Charles County warning residents of new phone scam

O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police in St. Charles County have received reports of someone pretending to be an O’Fallon lieutenant asking for money to pay off a bench warrant for their arrest.

According to police, the caller states they are Lt. Johnson with the O’Fallon Police and asks for the victim to pay off their warrant through PayPal.

Authorities have issued a warning stating this is a fraud and they do not employee a t Lt. Johnson. They also stated they would never call and request payment for a warrant over the phone.

Anyone who receives the fraudulent call should hang up immediately. If able to gain a call back number, authorities advise contacting them.
