Illinois budget standoff means funerals will be more expensive for some

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – The budget standoff in Illinois has forced one woman to raise money to pay for her husband’s funeral.

Chad Justice, 36, recently died from kidney disease. His funeral was supposed to be paid for the Illinois Department of Human Services, but the program is currently out of money. The Department of Human Services released a statement on the situation:

“The Funeral & Burial reimbursement program has exhausted all available funds from FY15 and is no longer paying out claims. We are returning the responsibility back to the localities as it was in Illinois in the past, and as it is in many states.”

“I can’t imagine anyone else going through what I’ve been going through this past week. It’s been hard,” said Chad’s wife Jessica Justice.

Jessica said she borrowed $7,000 for her husband’ burial. A GoFundMe account has been created to help pay for expenses.
