Chesterfield City Council votes to censure mayor

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Chesterfield City Council voted unanimously to censure Mayor Bob Nations Wednesday night.

The council based its decision on an alleged profanity-laden tirade Nations threw towards a city employee in July, an action some officials believe violated Chesterfield’s harassment policy.

Nations has never denied the outburst occurred, saying he had a bad day. Nation’s attorney Chet Pleban accused the council of acting improperly, and even mocked the hearing being held on the matter.

“I have already talked about how ridiculous this is legally, but let me tell you how silly it is factually,” Pleban said.

The audience at the council chambers were divided between Nation supporters and those supporting the council’s actions.

The censure has no legal teeth other than a public condemnation by the city council.
