ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Many businesses in St. Charles are concerned that construction on Fifth Street will slow down holiday sales.

A $10 million project started earlier in 2015 and is expected to be finished in 2016. It is not just those on Fifth Street who are concerned, some on Main Street believe the work will slow down sales during the holiday season.

“There’s some concerns there. Anything that impacts traffic here on Historic Main Street is a bit of a concern. That’s one problem we have,” said Jim Slack, the owner of Thistle and Clover.

St. Charles’ engineer told News 4 the project is scheduled to finish on-time and that much of the concrete work will be finished by the holiday season.
