Plans for Eureka hemp growing facility to be presented to Board of Aldermen Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

EUREKA, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Tuesday night, plans for a hemp growing facility in Eureka will once again go before city leaders.

During the meeting, the Board of Aldermen will decide whether or not to approve the cannabis plant.

Those in favor of the plant say it’s not about making something similar to marijuana, but about helping save lives, especially when it comes to treating extreme cases of epilepsy.  In 2014, Missouri lawmakers legalized the production of cannabis for that specific purpose.

Now, the Noah’s Arc Foundation, a non-profit in Chesterfield, is proposing a facility that will be used to grow hemp plants. The greenhouse would be located on land near a Missouri State Prison and would house around 400 hemp plants for the purpose of extracting hemp oil.

Last week, the Eureka Planning and Zoning Committee approved plans for the greenhouse by a vote of 8-to-1.
