Mother of woman killed in front of son wants more witnesses to shootings to speak up

( - The mother of a woman who was killed in front of her 5-year-old son wants witnesses to cooperate with police more often.

Whitney Brown, 24, was killed in a drive-by shooting in August. Brown was in the front seat of a car, and her son Jakeem, 5, was in the backseat. Police said they have leads but are still looking for a truck that may have been involved in the shooting. A $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone who has information lead to an arrest.

“The point is what they have is the problem with witnesses not coming forward. Everybody is so gung-ho saying they didn’t see anything,” said Brown’s mother Erica Jones.

Jones said she not only wants witnesses to come forward in her daughter’s shooting, but in all shootings.

If it was your mother, your daughter, your son, if what was one of them, how would you feel?” said Jones. “We need them to step up, we need those witnesses to come forward.”

Jones posted a question on Facebook to her grandson about what he he has to say to his mother’s killer. He responded:

“Stop hurting everybody, I deserve my mommy to be here with us.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to increase the reward offered to anyone who has information on the shooting to $10,000.
