ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – St. Louis hit a grim mark Thursday, reaching 159 homicides in 2015, matching the total from 2014.

St. Louis is on pace to have the highest number of homicides since 2008 when 167 people killed. Those who are in charge of fighting crime say it’s vital things are kept in perspective.

“We have had even higher rates of gun violence in St. Louis and we've come back from that, so I remain hopeful and optimistic that we are going to make our way out of this,” said St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, who added that those who witness gun violence have an obligation to come forward. “The way we can break out of this.is to become involved. It's up to the public to help police catch killers.”
