A 31-year-old man is accused of shooting a woman in the chest Monday evening after she refused to perform a sexual act.
Authorities said Mario Pearson led two women, who were hired to engage in sexual activity, to a vacant home in the 1200 Block of Meyer in University City.
When the 21-year-old woman refused to perform the sex act, Pearson allegedly grabbed her in an aggressive manner.
Another woman, aged 23, then reportedly pulled a gun on the suspect, urging him to stop. Police said Pearson wrestled away the gun, struck both women in the head with the weapon, and then managed to shoot the 21-year-old in the chest.
The gunshot wound victim was transported to an area hospital. There is currently no word on her condition.
The other victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention, according to police.
Pearson is charged with assault in the first degree. His bond is set at $150,000.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the University Police Department at 314-725-2211.
