Victim identified in fatal shooting at West St. Louis County home

A man was fatally shot in a west St. Louis County Tuesday night. A man was fatally shot in a west St. Louis County Tuesday night.

WEST ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Authorities have identified the victim in a shooting that occurred at a home in West St. Louis County Tuesday night.

Joel Wright, 41, was fatally shot and killed in the 400 block of Chamberlin.

According to police, after threatening the suspect and his ex-girlfriend, Wright began pounding on the front door of the suspect’s home.

The suspect, aware of the earlier threats, was armed with a weapon when he opened the door, police said. When the suspect opened the door and told Wright  to leave, he entered the home and reached towards his back, which the suspect said made him believe the Wright was grabbing a gun.

The suspect fired one shot, which struck Wright in the head.

The St. Louis County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is conducting the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
