ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The parents of students at Wilkinson Early Childhood Center protested Monday morning after the school announced a plan to consolidate classes.

The school had planned to reassign its first grade teacher to kindergarten classes, six weeks into the school year.

The attempted changes were due to low enrollment, according to the school.

On Monday morning though both students and parents came together to fight this possible change.

“Parents are coming together to say we want to help. We want to find out other solutions other than losing our teacher and we want to engage with decision makers on this kind of thing,” said concerned parent Anjana Mohan.

After Mondays meeting the school decided to not consolidate classes.

The charter school will continue to operate with three kindergarten classes and keep teachers in place.
