SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com/AP) – Several vehicles were damaged in South County after a carport caught fire early Saturday morning.

Between eight to ten cars were destroyed and roughly 15 more were damaged after a carport in the 9210 block of Bent Pine Court in Sappington caught fire around 3:30 a.m., according to Mehlville Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Kent Snelson.

Firefighters from Mehlville, Crestwood and Affton battled the blaze for nearly two hours.

Many residents reported hearing an explosion before the fire began.

Officials believe the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
