CASEYVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Two running bulls on Interstate 64 slowed traffic in the Metro East Friday afternoon

Two bulls got loose from a property in Caseyville around 3:30 p.m. and ran eastbound into westbound lanes of I-64, tying up traffic.

IDOT workers tried to corner and stop the bulls with trucks, but were unsuccessful. Illinois state troopers then arrived on the scene and fired shots at the bulls. One was hit multiple times and was briefly stunned, police said. That bull quickly recovered and charged at troopers who opened fire again, killing it.

The other bull was also hit by bullets. but ran in the direction of East St. Louis and was later spotted in a wooded area near Lynch and 15th street. Troopers searched the area for several hours and did not find the animal. The search was then called off.

The owner of the land where the bulls got loose was cited for failure to secure livestock.
