ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – St. Louis County is donating $150,000 to help Heatupstlouis.org pay delinquent utility bills.
The donation will help the non-profit pay for delinquent summer utility bills for qualified residents in need. Once the delinquent bills are paid, residents will be able to have their services reconnected before the winter heating season begins.
“Each year, old man winter beats down our poorest of the poor, so, today’s historic St. Louis County/Heatupstlouis.org partnership with the initial $150,000 investment is an investment in saving lives, and giving many a second chance for a safe and healthier winter,” Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson, who was representing the Greater St. Louis Area Fire Chiefs Association, said in a press release.
As of Thursday, Heatupstlouis.org had already expended roughly $50,000 or the donation, which has a deadline of October 31.
