Meeting over future of Pine Lawn PD ends due to crowd outbursts

PINE LAWN, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A meeting of Pine Lawn officials about the future of the city’s police department ended early after tensions ran high.

A shouting match ensued between residents and Pine Lawn’s interim mayor. After several minutes of shouting, the meeting was stopped. Many residents are frustrated over the process being used to possibly dissolve the city’s police department.

“It’s a disappointment. It’s discouraging how they want to exclude residents from having a part,” said resident Rosalyn Brown.

Many people were outside city hall protesting, some hoping the department is kept in place while other demonstrators want it to be disbanded.

Alderman Adrian Wright told News 4 no decisions have been made and that he wants to see public input. However, Wright said meetings cannot turn into a screaming match.

“It’s terrible. Nothing gets accomplished, it’s very embarrassing,” Wright said.

Wright believes a decision on police department’s future will not be made for some time.
