St. Charles County looking to open new emergency operations center

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

St. Charles County officials said they are looking to open a new emergency communication center because the current building is too small.

County officials said they are running out of room and are in a building with a history of problems. Several years ago, there was a sewage leak that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to equipment.

St. Charles County says it needs a larger more modern building for radio systems that would increase efficiency in communication between emergency responders. Plans call for a 10,000 square foot facility next to the St. Charles County Police Department. Emergency management would also be combined with 911 dispatch, which is currently housed in Wenztville.

The new building will be paid for from a quarter-cent sales tax for capital improvements passed by voters in 2009. Construction on the new center is slated to begin in 2017.
