Jefferson County Sheriff's Office warning residents of phone scam

Posted: Updated:

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam.

Several residents reported receiving phone calls from someone who says a judge of the 23rd Judicial Circuit has issued a warrant for them for “failure to appear for jury duty.” The caller tells the resident they could “take care of the fines” using a credit or debit card.

The sheriff’s office says the circuit clerk’s office sends correspondence using the US Postal Service and they do not call residents with notices.

Anyone who has been contacted by the scammer is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at (636) 797-9999, or email gboyer@jeffcomo.org. They can also contact the Missouri Attorney General’s office at 800-392-8222, or email attorney.general.ago.mo.gov.
