Portion of Southwest Avenue closed until January

Posted: Updated:

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – All lanes of Southwest Avenue from Bellevue are expected to remain closed through January 2016.

During the closure, crews with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District will continue installing two separate sewer lines through the cities of Maplewood, Richmond Heights and St. Louis. The new sewer line is part of the sewer district’s ongoing effort to alleviate basement backups and sewer overflows.

The roadway was originally expected to reopen by mid-July, but excessive rainfall forced the date to be pushed back.

Traffic signs are in the area to guide drivers to alternate routes.

Local traffic can access sections of the closed roadway.
