ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Memorial Baptist Church hosted a "Stop The Violence" march at 9:30 Saturday morning.

The idea behind the march is to let the people of St. Louis know that the violence needs to end and alert residents to the fact that a church can provide much needed resources.

"We are here to counsel. To let them know that there are educated people that can do these type of counselings," said Reverend Joffre Swinney. "We have outreach ministries and we have missions. We have everything we have as a church to let them know that this church is a beacon of light for this community."

Swinney said the march is meant to serve as sort of a wake up call to the community.

The church is located at 4001 Fair Ave. in St. Louis.
