HILLSBORO, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The Hillsboro School Board met Thursday morning to accept the resignation of three of its members.

According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aaron Cornman, the board’s president, John Stewart, vice president, Dan McCarthy, and Charles “Bo” Harrison submitted letters of resignation prior to Thursday’s meeting.

During the 6:30 a.m. meeting, the board accepted the three resignations and promoted the board’s current treasurer to president.

Dr. Cornman said no exact reason for the resignations were given, but McCarthy’s letter listed “philosophical differences.”

The resignations follow several protests that have taken place regarding senior Lila Perry, a transgender student who wants to use the girls' locker room during gym class. Perry was born a man, but said she has identified as a female since age 13.
