BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A crowd of supporters attended a community fundraiser for a 9-year-old boy who survived a double stabbing in Swansea, which claimed the life of his mother.

The Little Knights Football Club hosted an event at the Dairy Queen in Belleville on Wednesday to raise funds for Nicholas Day. Community members showed up in a big way, with a line of supporters wrapped around the building.

Nicholas' family said they are making sure Nicholas gets the proper amount of care throughout this healing process.

"I think him healing will help bring us healing," said Tara Triplette, Nicholas's aunt.

Alvis Harris, Jr. was arrested and faces several charges in connection to the brutal stabbing, including first degree murder and aggravated battery of a child.
